During the execution of the project “Associated miners of Cabo Delgado and Nampula practice dignified, ethical, clean and environmentally sustainable artisanal and small-scale mining”, financed by the Generalitat Valenciana, and implemented by medicusmundi and Centro Terra Viva, in collaboration with the Provincial Government and district governments, it took place the training of members of the 6 Natural Resources Management Committees (CGRN) supported by the project, from April 22 to 26, 2024, in the districts of Murrupula, Mogovolas and Moma.
In total, 70 people were trained, including 16 women and 54 men, on topics such as environmental conservation, rational use of natural resources, environment and climate change, tasks of each member of the management, and rights and duties of the members.
The CGRN were created within the scope of the project, as local actors, in the mining communities, who work side by side with medicusmundi and the CTV, in the dissemination of messages of good environmental practices, sustainable use of natural resources, awareness messages on environmental conservation.
The CGRN trained were: Naquirica and Tipode, in Murrupula; Mupacani Tomo and Mutamala, in Mogovolas; and Mavuco and Nanvava, in Moma. It is worth noting that all six committees have been participating in their district advisory councils. And, as decision-making bodies of the district government, they have an important role in alerting members about the need to debate and seek the best strategies to conserve the environment.
