1st International Conference on the Social Determinants of Health in Mozambique: towards health for all

2018 ended with a very important event for medicusmundi and our partner organisations in Mozambique for the Right to Health and for the defence of a quality public health system that prioritises primary health care and a focus on the social determinants of health.

Social Determinants of Health

It is the first time a conference on this topic has taken place both in this country and in the region itself

On 5, 6 and 7 December, we held the 1st International Conference on the Social Determinants of Health, in the city of Maputo, Mozambique. It is the first time a conference on this topic has taken place both in this country and in the region itself. Never before has a space of this magnitude been opened for dialogue in the country, a space led by national and international social movements, where health could be discussed as a fundamental right for all people.

The high level of participation over the three days of the conference, with an average attendance of over 150 people, was very gratifying for all of us, including our cooperation partners, members of the Scientific Committee, international organisations such as the People's Health Movement, speakers, presenters and the general public.

After the three days of the conference, which included projecting the 1st International Film Festival on Health and Rights, we are pleased to have contributed to increasing knowledge of the social determinants of health in Mozambique.

This conference was only possible thanks to the support of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development, the European Union, the MASC Foundation, the Swiss Development Cooperation and the Barcelona City Council.
