Medicusmundi participates in the 2nd session of the development observatory in Cabo Delgado province

On the 26th of August, medicusmundi, accompanied by its local partner Centro Terra Viva, participated in the 2nd Session of the Development Observatory of Cabo Delgado Province, which took place at the Alberto Joaquim Chipande Teacher Training Institute

On the 26th of August, medicusmundi, accompanied by its local partner Centro Terra Viva, participated in the 2nd Session of the Development Observatory of Cabo Delgado Province, which took place at the Alberto Joaquim Chipande Teacher Training Institute, in the city of Pemba, and was presided over by His Excellency. António Supeia, Secretary of State in the Province and for His Excellency. Valige Tuabo, governor of Cabo Delgado province.

In this second session of the observatory, all civil society organizations in the province, development agencies and cooperation partners were invited, as well as the circle of businessmen, representatives of religious and traditional leaders, representatives of academic and banking institutions, administrators district officials and members of the various provincial government authorities. In total, more than one hundred people participated in the event, which had the following objectives:

- Present and discuss the synthesis and assessment of the degree of compliance with the recommendations made in the first session of the observatory (held in December 2021).

- Present and discuss the balance of the plan and budget of the provincial government bodies and the Economic and Social Plan (PES) and the State budget for 2021 and the first half of 2022.

- Report on the progress of the Cabo Delgado Reconstruction Plan 2021-2024.

- Present the proposed PES for 2023.

- Present the position of civil society (represented by FOCADE) in relation to the 2021 balance sheet.

The meeting, which started at 8 am and ended around 5 pm, was an open space for debate where different points of view were presented and many concerns and recommendations were presented to be taken into account in the following period.

At the time of the final conclusions, both the Secretary of State and the governor of the province mentioned in their speeches that Cabo Delgado is managing to respond to the development needs of the territory despite the difficulties of the current moment (conflict situation), but that there are still many challenges for which we must work together and in coordination. In the words of Governor Valige Tuabo, "each of us represents valuable work, indispensable for our purpose of serving the population and improving the development of our province".
