On 5, 6 and 7 December, we held the 1st International Conference on the Social Determinants of Health, in the city of Maputo, Mozambique.

On 5 April we had the first meeting with the ten trainers on our Intensive Social Documentary Course.

We are accepting applications for the first Intensive Social Documentary Course from 1 to 30 April. 

We at medicusmundi express our deepest sympathy and profound sense of solidarity with the families devastated by cyclone Idai which has ravaged Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.  

Last February the first Legal Caravans of 2019 were held as part of our “Artisanal Mining: Environmental and Cultural Rights in Cabo Delgado” project.

This time we are exploring the important topic of gender-based violence.

2018 ended with a very important event for medicusmundi and our partner organisations in Mozambique for the Right to Health and for the defence of a quality public health system that prioritises primary health care and a focus on the social determinants of health.

It will come as no surprise if I say we are living in times when health, around the world, is being transformed into a highly desirable consumer good and, in some parts of our planet, one within reach of only a very few people.

I could start this closing speech just to say yes, we have achieved the conference goal: to increase academic knowledge on the social determinants of health in Mozambique.
