Many families from Cabo Delgado are still living in "Resettlement Centres" (RC) or in the homes of relatives in urban areas of the Province: in August last year there were 627,846 internally displaced persons. Because the authorities do not have sufficient response capacity and because the country is experiencing a structural situation of poverty, the displaced population relocated in RC continues to live in difficult conditions, including limited access to drinking water and basic sanitation, which favours a high prevalence of cases of diarrheal diseases with the permanent threat of cholera outbreaks. This risk is very high and the preparation of local actors (local authorities, health centres and the local population itself) to prevent and confront this risk is not adequate.
medicusmundi is launching, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, a project specifically focused on strengthening the capacity of health actors and the local population to prevent diarrheal diseases and to improve case management.
