building a future where violence has no place

The launch ceremony in Maputo for the 16 Days of Activism 2025: End digital violence against all women and girls campaign, under the slogan “UNITE to end violence against women and girls”, brought together government officials, representatives of civil society organizations, and cooperating partners. Speaking on behalf of all the partners, Begoña Hermida, from medicusmundi, emphasized the need for the campaign to transcend its symbolic nature: “It must mobilize us, hold us accountable, and unite us in building a future where violence has no place.”

In his speech, Vicente Joaquim Imede, Secretary of State for the City of Maputo, warned of the urgent need to make cyberspace a safe environment for everyone. He also highlighted the growing problem of digital violence against women and girls, emphasizing that prevention must adapt to new technological realities.

The ceremony combined symbolic and practical actions, including artistic demonstrations and a health fair, which offered services and awareness-raising activities to the community. These actions reinforce a comprehensive approach that unites culture, service delivery, and political advocacy to address gender-based violence.

The participation of medicusmundi demonstrates its strategic role as a catalyst for social change, working in collaboration with the State to strengthen prevention, care, and recovery mechanisms.

With this ceremony, the UNITE to End Violence against Women campaign gains momentum at both the institutional and community levels, launching a collective call for sustainable action so that gender-based violence is increasingly less tolerated and combated more effectively.

Currently, medicusmundi is implementing three projects in the city of Maputo, in collaboration with government institutions and civil society organizations, aimed at addressing this scourge, with financial support from the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD) and the Valencian Government / Valencian Cooperation (GVA).
