The district of Ancuabe, in Cabo Delgado, is strengthening the operational capacity of its Health Emergency Centres to improve their response to public health crises, with support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
Institutional strengthening and improving preparedness, coordination, and response to health emergencies.
On April 21, 2026, a meeting was held to revitalize the Health Emergency Operation Centres (HEOC) in the Ancuabe District Government Meeting Room. Fifteen representatives (12 men and 3 women) from the District Government and the centre's technical team participated. The session was chaired by the District Administrator, thus reinforcing institutional leadership in preparedness and response to health emergencies.
The main objective of the meeting was to strengthen the district health system's capacity to respond to emergencies by reviewing the level of implementation of health emergency plans, identifying operational limitations, and defining priority measures to improve the effectiveness of interventions.
The meeting also facilitated the sharing of experiences, lessons learned, and best practices among the various sectors involved, contributing to the consolidation of a more integrated and operational approach to managing health emergencies at the district level.
This activity is part of an ongoing process to strengthen the Health Emergency Operation Centres (HEOC), which will include follow-up meetings in the coming months and will be complemented by the acquisition of emergency kits during the second quarter of the year, with the aim of improving immediate response capacity and operational preparedness for potential critical situations.
The revitalization of the HEOC is part of a series of actions aimed at institutional strengthening and improving preparedness, coordination, and response to health emergencies, contributing to the development of a more resilient and effective health system focused on the needs of the population of Cabo Delgado province.
This activity is part of the AECID Agreement 22-CO1-398, “Improving the quality, coverage, and resilience of the Cabo Delgado healthcare system”, implemented by medicusmundi in collaboration with the Mozambican National Health System and funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and Fons Mallorquí de Solidaritat i Cooperació.
