Social Determinants of Health

On April 17th, the official launch of the project “Consolidating exit routes from gender-based violence in Maputo (Mozambique) - Phase 2” took place in the KaMubukwana Municipal District in Maputo. The initiative is led by medicusmundi with financial support from the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD).

The event aimed to present the planned actions that will be implemented in the district over the next two years, ensuring the continuity of a collaborative effort to strengthen local and institutional capacities in responding to gender-based violence.

The launch was attended by our key partners — the Multisectoral Mechanism for Integrated Care for Women Victims of Violence (MMAIMVV), Hixikanwe Association, and HOPEM Network — as well as local authorities from KaMubukwana District, including the District Administrator, who expressed their support and commitment to the project.

The project seeks to improve public services for women survivors of gender-based violence, facilitating access to psychological, legal, and social support, while also promoting their economic empowerment. It also includes community awareness activities in neighborhoods and schools, and the promotion of new masculinities to help prevent violence from its roots.

At medicusmundi, we reaffirm our commitment to a transformative approach based on equity, human rights, and close collaboration with local institutions and communities.
