Alliance for Health in Cabo Delgado Advances Preparations for Awareness and Advocacy Campaign

Promoting the Right to Health.

On August 18, 2026, a meeting was held at the Mozambique Red Cross meeting room in the city of Pemba with representatives from civil society organizations that make up the Alliance for Health in Cabo Delgado. The aim was to advance preparations for an awareness and advocacy campaign addressing health-related issues in the province.

The meeting brought together 20 participants — 13 men and 7 women — enabling the organizations to share their areas of expertise, identify common priorities, and define a shared vision for the upcoming campaign.

Key objectives identified include promoting the right to health, fostering behavioural change within communities and among health professionals, and strengthening the humanization and quality of healthcare services.

During the session, various target audiences were defined—including health professionals and institutions, community leaders, women, youth, and civil society organizations. Proposals were also developed for awareness and advocacy actions, such as debates, radio programs, informational materials, and community-based initiatives.

As part of this process, a technical group was established to support the coordination and communication of the Alliance's activities. This group comprises medicusmundi; Karibu (Association of Natives and Friends of Ibo Island); AMDV (Mozambican Association of People with Visual Impairments); and CDSI (Centre for Integral Social Development).

The meeting thus served as a forum for reflection, consultation, and joint planning, allowing civil society organizations to identify priorities and propose actions for a future campaign focused on the right to health and the sector's main challenges in Cabo Delgado.

Campaign preparations will continue over the coming months, with a new meeting of the Alliance scheduled for October 2026.
