The rehabilitation of the Meloco Health Centre aligns with medicusmundi's commitment to promoting the right to health as a fundamental human right.

On April 28, 2025, at 1:00 PM, the reopening ceremony of the local Health Centre took place in the Administrative Post of Meloco, Namuno district, following significant rehabilitation work on its facilities.

The intervention included the construction of a new maternity ward with 10 beds, the erection of a perimeter wall, and the rehabilitation of the old maternity ward, which now houses the laboratory, the tuberculosis consultation room, and the health centre’s storage unit. The project also expanded the outpatient consultation block, enabling the introduction of new services such as paediatrics and a sterilization room.

The ceremony was presided over by the Governor of Cabo Delgado Province, Valige Tauabo, and attended by the Provincial Health Director, Magido Sabune, the District Administrator of Namuno, Lúcia Geraldo Namashulua, the Head of the Meloco Administrative Post, local community and religious leaders, health professionals, and members of the public.

During the event, the engineer from the Provincial Health Directorate, Nelson Faustino, presented the technical details of the rehabilitation, highlighting improvements compared to the previous condition of the infrastructure. This was followed by the ribbon-cutting and unveiling of the commemorative plaque by the Governor and the medicusmundi Provincial Coordinator in Cabo Delgado, Momeno Jamal, along with a guided tour of the new facilities. The Governor repeatedly expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the work, emphasizing that it adheres to principles of humanized health care, promoting dignified and accessible services for the community.

In her speech, the District Administrator expressed gratitude for the new infrastructure and highlighted its potential to improve health service delivery, especially given the high pressure on the system due to a lack of adequate facilities in recent years.

The rehabilitation of the Meloco Health Centre aligns with medicusmundi's commitment to promoting the right to health as a fundamental human right, with universal access to Primary Health Care being a critical condition for its fulfilment.
