Strengthening coordination among members.
On March 28 and April 24, 2025, the Alliance for Health network held strategic meetings in the cities of Pemba and Maputo with the goal of strengthening coordination among members, harmonizing the 2025 activity plan, and reinforcing the collective commitment to the right to health in Mozambique.
In Pemba, the meeting was held at the Mozambique Red Cross hall and brought together representatives (12 men and 1 woman) from 13 civil society organizations that make up the Alliance nucleus in Cabo Delgado. During the session, an action plan for 2025 was drafted, based on the main challenges identified during the last nucleus meeting, held in August 2024. The importance of rotating leadership among member organizations was also highlighted; the nucleus is currently coordinated by the Wiwanana Foundation.
In Maputo, the first annual meeting of the Alliance for Health network took place on April 24, 2025, at the LAMBDA Association facilities, in a hybrid format (in-person and online), with representatives (12 women and 7 men) from 10 civil society organizations participating. The main objectives of the event were to revitalize the network, align the strategic activity plan for 2025, and officially introduce the new platform coordinator, Eva Gracia. In her speech, the coordinator highlighted the current challenging context of the National Health System, marked by socio-political instability and a healthcare workers' strike, emphasizing the crucial role of civil society organizations in promoting access to health as a universal human right.
The meetings also included the presentation of the 2024 annual report, which focused on the Alliance’s three strategic pillars — Research, Training, and Advocacy — and featured participatory group sessions where ideas and priority topics to be addressed in 2025 were shared.
Since its creation in 2020, the Alliance for Health has consistently worked to strengthen Mozambique’s health system, promoting equitable access to Primary Health Care as an essential condition for realizing the right to health.
Both initiatives are part of Agreement 2022-CO1-398 “Improving the quality, coverage, and resilience of the Cabo Delgado healthcare system”, implemented by medicusmundi, and funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
