medicusmundi collaborates with the Xipamanine Health Centre to improve its accessibility for people with disabilities, with funding from the Municipality of Barcelona.
to offer safer and more dignified conditions for people with disabilities
On October 27, 2025, the official handover of the accessibility improvements for people with disabilities at the Xipamanine Health Centre took place, within the framework of the project "Improving municipal policies for people with disabilities in Maputo", funded by the Municipality of Barcelona and implemented by medicusmundi, in collaboration with the Maputo Municipal Council (CMM) and the Association of People with Disabilities of Mozambique (ADEMO).
The works included the installation of access ramps, the adaptation of restrooms with grab bars, painting, improvements to lighting and water supply, the construction of connecting corridors in strategic areas, and the installation of handrails at the main entrance.
Thanks to these interventions, the Xipamanine Health Centre in the Nlhamankulu municipal district now offers safer and more dignified conditions for people with disabilities, eliminating the physical barriers that historically hindered mobility within the facility. The improvements also contribute to the creation of more functional and accessible routes, benefiting all users and facilitating the work of healthcare staff.
The project "Improving municipal policies for people with disabilities in Maputo" reinforces the commitment of the municipal authorities and their partners to promoting inclusive policies, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their limitations, have equitable access to health services. With this first intervention and others that medicusmundi hopes to complete in the coming years, the Xipamanine Health Centre will become a benchmark for future accessibility interventions in the municipality's healthcare network.
