Model communities continue to make progress in their fight against child malnutrition

medicusmundi continues to support the strategy of model communities in carrying out activities aimed at reducing malnutrition.

On this occasion, it was the turn of Mahari, the selected community in the district of Namuno, where Mário, the technician from the District Service for Economic Activities (SDAE), gave a practical demonstration on how to preserve vegetables harvested in home gardens supported by the project.

One of the challenges faced by farming families is their ability to conserve and store their products, both fresh vegetables and cereals, for use in times of scarcity.

Therefore, on this occasion, taking advantage of the fact that it coincides with a time of abundant cabbage harvest, Mário explained the conservation techniques of green leafy vegetables to increase their shelf life and maintain their nutritional properties.

In this way, with the knowledge acquired by the families of Mahari, another step is taken to make more and better use of local production and promote diet variety at different times of the year, increasing the nutritional value of food at the community level.

This activity is carried out with the financial support of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) under the terms of Convention 18-CO1-1096 «Improving the health of the population, with an impact on its Social Determinants and a special focus on nutrition, through strengthening Primary Health Care as the best strategy to guarantee the Right to Health and the collaboration of civil society, research institutions and the SNS».
