Medicusmundi participates in the celebration of World Food Day in the city of Pemba.

Since FAO established 16 October as World Food Day in 1979, this day has been celebrated as a date set aside to claim the right to food as a way of raising public awareness of issues related to nutrition and food.

In 2022, the motto chosen was "leave no one behind" as a reflection on the different factors that currently affect world food security (pandemics, conflicts, climate change, rising prices, inequalities, international tension, etc.).

And in this sense, medicusmundi continues to work with the financial support of AECID to "leave no one behind", working with model communities in the fight against child malnutrition, supporting activities such as family gardens, school gardens, training in methods of conserving food, improvement of hygiene practices in the community, nutritional education seminars in schools, as well as the follow-up and monitoring of cases of child malnutrition by health professionals.

It is for this reason that last Sunday, October 16th, the nutritionists of the medicusmundi team in Cabo Delgado joined the World Food Day march that took place from Praça Paulo Samuel Kankomba to Wimbe beach, and participated in other activities planned (cooking demonstrations, theatrical performances, poetry contest) for the celebration of the event in the city of Pemba.

From medicusmundi, we highlight the importance of a multisectoral approach and the coordination of activities between different sectors to create synergies that contribute to strengthening the resilience of rural communities in the face of local and global challenges that jeopardize the food security of families.
